Don’t let winter wreak havoc on your skin

Preparing for winter usually involves layering up with extra clothes and accessories. Knitted jumpers, scarves, hats and gloves all reappear after being stashed away over the summer.

Just as you layer your clothing, you should think about adding nourishing layers of moisturiser to your skin, to protect it from drying out in colder weather. Chapped lips and hands, along with dry skin on the face, are uncomfortable and demoralising. Dry skin can even lead to eczema break-outs – an itchy horror that no-one wants to suffer in the run-up to Christmas.

With the clocks turning back this month, we thought it was the ideal time to offer a few Eternal top tips for healthy winter skin . . .

  1. You are what you eat! Tempting as it is to indulge in carb and sugar-heavy treats in the winter, try to limit the comfort snacks and eat plenty of skin-friendly foods. These include salmon, almonds, eggs and most brightly coloured fruit and veg.
  2. Drink for victory. Staying hydrated isn’t just important in the summer. Centrally-heated homes and offices can be stuffy and over-warm, so it’s important to keep refilling your glass even if you don’t feel thirsty. Aim to drink 2 – 2.5 litres every day.
  3. Get scrubbing. You might think that exfoliation will be too harsh for your skin during the winter, but this isn’t the case. Exfoliating prevents clogged pores, allowing moisturiser to be absorbed more easily.
  4. Factor in the sun cream. Sun damage can still occur in the winter, so don’t ditch your sun cream altogether. Perhaps switch to a lower SPF, or if you wear foundation, invest in one that includes a sun screen.
  5. Read all about it. Take a close look at the labels on the skin products you’re using. Do they contain harsh chemicals, preservatives and artificial fragrances that could be irritating your skin? Switch to a natural product, such as our superb Aloe-rich skincare range.

If you buy one new skincare product this winter, make it our Aloe Super Hydrating Moisturiser. It’s a botanically based, luxuriously rich hydrating cream with a high concentration of pure Aloe leaf juice. Renowned as a herbal healing remedy for centuries, Aloe has anti-inflammatory properties and naturally balances the pH of the skin.

We’re so confident you’ll be happy with our products that we offer a 90-day money back guarantee. Why not try out our creams this winter – and keep your skin in tip-top condition right through till spring!
